Welcome! My name is Abeer!
I’m a Toronto-based journalist and digital content creator with a passion for equity and audience engagement.
I love to write important stories, create cute illustrations and plan social media content. I’m very passionate about internet + pop culture, social justice and equity reporting. When I’m not typing away on a loud mechanical keyboard or sifting through multiple tabs, you can probably find me on Twitter screaming about BTS!
My writing can be found in The Toronto Star, The Eyeopener and The Dance Current. My creative work can be found at RU Student Life, The Sheldon and Tracy Levy Student Learning Centre and Folio Magazine.
My work has won many awards including the John H. MacDonald Award for Excellence in Student Journalism Arts and Culture Writing.
I have also received the Thomson Reuters Award for most promising journalist in their first year and the Eyeopener Jay Sussman Memorial Award for excellence in political studies and journalism. More recently, I was a finalist for the 2020 Fraser MacDougall Prize for Best New Canadian Voice in Human Rights Reporting.
Outside of my work, I love to journal, listen to BTS, scroll through TikTok and add to my ever-growing collection of love memes on Pinterest.
